The all new 2012 Volkswagen Passat was honored as the Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, receiving high marks in various crash test categories.
Online PR News – 14-September-2011 – – The insurance industry’s research group, Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has selected the all new redesigned 2012 Volkswagen Passat as their Top Safety Pick. This marks the eighth vehicle from the Volkswagen line to nab the Top Pick. The 2010 Passat (the most recent model) also received the Top Safety Pick from the IIHS, but the 2012 edition has proved even sturdier than its predecessor.
The IIHS rates the safety of vehicles based on front, side, rear and rollover crash tests. The 2012 Passat received “good” ratings in all said categories, qualifying it as a leader. The IIHS reports that the Passat performed particularly well for the roof strength test, during which it was able to withstand 6.32 times its curb weight, the highest ratio in the “midsize moderately priced sedan” category. The IIHS' standard for roof strength is a measurement of four times a car’s weight.
All Top Safety Picks are also required to have head protection airbags and Electronic Stability Control - both come standard across Volkswagen’s entire new model line.Your Omaha Volkswagen dealer is excited to offer this award winning technology in the 2012 VW Passat, which will be available for sale in late September.
The 2012 Passat has yet to be tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which will lend more information later in the year. Visit Performance Volkswagen to schedule a test drive and learn more about the exciting new 2012 Passat.
