VJ Books celebrates the upcoming release of James Lee Burke’s second Hackberry Holland novel, Feast Day of Fools, and honors Burke as September 2011 Author of the Month.
Online PR News – 01-September-2011 – – Celebrated crime master James Lee Burke is back with a gorgeously crafted, brutally resonant chronicle of violence along the Texas-Mexico border. VJ Books is offering signed copies of his upcoming novel--Feast Day of Fools--as well as specials on other collectible Burke titles.
Praised by Joyce Carol Oates for “the luminosity of his writerly voice” James Lee Burke returns with his most allegorical novel to date, illuminating vital issues of our time—immigration, energy, religious freedom—with the rich atmosphere and devastatingly flawed, authentic characters that readers have come to celebrate during the five decades of his brilliant career.
James Lee Burke has written over 30 novels. He is best known for his series that takes place in Louisiana and features Dave Robicheaux, the latest being last year’s megahit The Glass Rainbow. In 2009 Burke brought back Hackberry Holland from his 1971 novel Lay Down My Sword and Shield. Rain Gods is the most clearly literary novel of Burke's distinguished career as a novelist, and Feast Day of Fools follows with the same quality you have come to expect from this brilliant author.
The dialogue scenes, along with the action sequences, the South Texas landscape and the indelibly conflicted characters make you want to give Burke a medal; the tangled plot, which lurches from one great sequence to the next without going anywhere but the grave, is the price you pay for these deep pleasures.
