INTERNET COMPLAINT SITE RIPOFF REPORT GOES BLACK; Business Owners Breathe A Sigh Of Relief (For Now)
08/10/2011

UPDATE: Information in the original press release was erroneous. The Kelly Law Firm posted a news release that had false information in it about Ripoff Report. Ripoff Report has never charged anyone to file a rebuttal or to file a report or an UPDATE to a report. The revised release is below.

Online PR News – 10-August-2011 – – SCOTTSDALE, AZ August 9, 2011 –Today, infamous Internet complaint site, RipOffReport went black. Online reputation managers began noticing the change early this morning, and by the early evening it became evident that Google had de-indexed RipOffReport.com.

“I had first noticed that Ripoff Report had been removed from the search results earlier in the day but did not give it much attention until I followed up later in the afternoon,” stated online defamation lawyer, Aaron Kelly. “I noticed that not only were the links absent, but a search for the keyword “ripoff report” showed no results for the site. It became apparent at that point that something had happened”.

Early reports indicate the event may be at RipOffReports own request. However, the request for removal may have been an accident or a hack of the site’s webmaster tools account.

“Depending on how long it is down, it may never return to the former glory it once was,” explained Mr. Kelly. “Regardless of whether or not this was a hacking incident, people should be mindful of the uptick in business over the next two days and then gauge whether taking further action, be it legal representation or reputation management, will be useful. ”

This latest removal by Google – accident or not – is not the first time that RipOffReport has been downgraded in the eyes of a search engine. Both Bing and Yahoo! typically relegate RipOffReport to the 2nd and 3rd pages of search engine results; some speculate this is due to the inequity of the service (i.e., consumers can post reviews for free, but business owners must pay for an arbitration service in order to get materials removed – a system many consider to be a recipe for disaster.)
