ArtPlace Gallery in Fairfield, CT announces a very unusual upcoming art show! 'Artists Invite Artists' features a select group of local artists from CT and NY, all personally chosen by ArtPlace members to exhibit their work.

Online PR News – 25-July-2011 – – Fairfield, CT – ArtPlace Gallery announces an unusual art show to be held August 10 - September 11, 2011 at 11 Unquowa Road. ‘Artists Invite Artists’ showcases the work of local and upcoming artists all personally chosen by current ArtPlace members. The last such exhibit was held back in 2004 and members are excited about the new energy that will be on display to the public.

“I think that most of the members like to introduce their talented artist friends to our gallery, and perhaps also find some under-recognized or younger artists who have not had much opportunity to exhibit,” says Binnie Birstein, co-president of ArtPlace. “We also wanted to invite new artists into the community, including those who may interested in becoming members of Connecticut's longest operating co-op, coming up on 30 years.”

To that end 27 artists from Connecticut, New York State and New York City will be exhibiting work ranging from oil and watercolor to collage and three-dimensional pieces during the month long show, with an opening reception to be held Sunday, August 14 from 3 – 5 pm.

Invitees include Peggy Weis, Ginny Rogers and Karl Soderlund from Fairfield, Betsy Davidson and Kim Hanna from Redding, Jane Lubin, Roger Dickinson, Alberta Cifolelli and Mary Ellen Hendricks from Westport, Florence Suerig from Greenwich, Princess Cureton from Norwalk, Thomas Throop and Elizabeth Nagle from New Canaan, Donna Collins from Darien, Margaret Tsirantonakis from Stamford, Sarah French from Rowayton, Susan
Sharp from Easton, Jane Ingram from Ridgefield, Dorothy
Powers from Branford, Irene Miller, Nancy Eisenfeld, Howard Yasin and Pat Goldstein from New Haven, Marian Froehlich from Larchmont, NY, Sally Frank from North Salem, NY
and Polly Schindler and Christine Quinn from Brooklyn and New York City respectively.

All artists were chosen for their high quality, compelling work as well as personal reasons, according to Birstein.

“I helped select Peggy Weis because I think she doesn’t get her powerful, and often humorous, work ‘out there’ enough – I think she is a powerful artist with a lot to say,” she says.

Weis works as a printmaker and has done glass sculpture. She has held the position of chairman of the board at the Center for Contemporary Printmaking in Norwalk.

ArtPlace member Dave Pressler chose Fairfield artist Karl Soderlund as his invitee and says: “Karl is a true professional artist…with a presence in Fairfield for many years. His gallery has had meaningful exhibitions, featuring not only his work, but also fine artists from around the country.”

Karl’s art includes formal oil portraits, landscapes and seascapes and large works using a Chuck Close approach to painting, using symbolic units to create portraits of famous people.

Fairfield artist Ginny Rogers will also be exhibiting at the show. She explains that the mixed media collage piece she has chosen for display is from the series; “Through the Straits,’ which reflects “on the flow of life with its difficult and delightful places.”
