Distance learning provider IDI (the Interactive Design Institute) is launching an innovative online course for students considering a career in photography, starting in October 2011.
Online PR News – 15-July-2011 – – The UK’s leading provider of online qualifications in Art & Design, the Interactive Design Institute, is launching an innovative online photography course for those considering a career in photography. This photography qualification is the latest to be developed by the Institute, specifically for online delivery and accredited by a leading UK university; the University of Hertfordshire.
“At IDI we are aware that there are several photography courses online and many, many photography degree courses available for those keen to study photography”, says Michael Stewart, director of IDI. “However, our online photography course differs from other courses because it has been especially written by professional photographers, industry practitioners and highly qualified academics for online delivery. Our course is designed to prepare photography students for employment in a wide range of photographic professions including commercial, client led practices such as advertising and editorial photography, documentary photography and fine art photography”.
The Interactive Design Institute is a collaborative partner of the University of Hertfordshire and currently delivers their photography qualification to the level of Certificate in Education following one year’s online study, with the photography Diploma being awarded after two years online study. Subject to approval, students will have the option of completing their Degree either online or through attendance at the University of Hertfordshire.
Essentially, IDI’s photography course enables students to study towards a photography degree online by encouraging them to explore and evolve their own photographic vision and practice. Throughout the course students are encouraged to adopt a professional attitude to their studies and the working environment is simulated through a sequence of practical projects which enable photography students gain a range of technical skills and professional knowledge. Experimentation and risk-taking is a particular feature of the online photography course and students are encouraged to push the boundaries within their own practice. However, this innovative approach is underpinned by solid research work including the critical study of photographic histories, theories and contemporary practices.
Michael Stewart concludes, “The Interactive Design Institute’s online photography degree programme emphasises professionalism and industry relevance. We have experienced a significant demand for photography courses online and following extensive development work, we are delighted to offer our Dip HE photography course for students across the UK and internationally”.
As an increasing number of people are looking to upgrade existing qualifications or retrain with the aim of taking a different career path, distance learning courses and online courses in particular are being seen as an attractive option and photography is no exception.
IDI are currently enrolling students for their October 2011intake and expect demand for places to be huge. “We have received a significant number of enquiries and early enrolments from students anxious to secure their place; students who realise the value of a photography qualification”, says Stewart, “IDI’s photography course provides a thorough grounding for the student who is intent on a career in photography”.
With student fees set to increase significantly over the next 12 months, IDI’s pledge to maintain their current fee structure until after the October 2011 enrolment period could prove beneficial to a large number of students. “We are not subject to the same costs as face to face providers and our student fees are therefore much lower”, says Stewart.
Photography has always been viewed as a profession which suits those who are suited to freelance work or starting their own business and for many, an online photography course could be the first step towards a career in the photography industry.
