Expert Panel Will Examine the HIE Model Including Specific Approaches and Their Relationship to Meaningful Use and the ARRA Incentives.

Online PR News – 07-July-2011 – – HITECH Answers, a leading provider of educational resources on the HITECH Act, the ARRA stimulus benefits and Meaningful Use (MU) announced today its latest E-leaning session, “Financing Research and Framework Development for an HIE: Can HIEs Really Achieve Financial Sustainability?”.

The session is scheduled for Wednesday, July 13 at 2 pm EDT, and will be presented by a panel of experts including: Dr. Chris Cavanaugh, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania eHealth Initiative; William 'Buddy' Gillespie, Director of Healthcare Solutions Distributed Systems Services, Inc. (DSS; and Camilla Hull Brown, Principal, Strategies for Tomorrow, Inc. The session will explore the opportunities and challenges of the Health Information Exchange (HIE) model and how it fits into the Health Information Technology landscape.

The presentation will feature the expertise of the Pennsylvania eHealth Initiative (PAeHI) and the lessons learned through its real-world experience with HIE. According to the organization, “Improving health outcomes will require harnessing the data in HIE’s to support new models of care delivery, coordination, and preventive interventions. HIE’s alone are not enough, and new approaches devoid of timely and accurate information will also fall short.” Specific topics covered will include:

• Exploration of multiple HIE models from national and state perspectives as well as approaches to achieving financial sustainability.
• Identification of best practices and transformational approaches for funding HIEs at state, regional and community levels.
• Examination of critical lessons learned based on a case study of key stakeholders from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
• Insight into how HIEs are repositioning efforts to implement the HITECH Act through Meaningful Use (MU) and incorporating the data exchange needs of new models such as Accountable Care Organizations (ACO).
