Online PR News – 22-May-2011 – – The JD Annual Design Awards show 2011 was graced by top Sandalwood stars including the gorgeous Ms.Pooja Gandhi (and others). Students of the JDAnnual Design Award Show 2011 tasted the sweet flavors of success as they rocked the show with their mind-blowing creations based on this year’s theme titled “Celeste-elements of nature” Their designs were carried off to perfection by stunningly beautiful models who romanced the ramp with their ensembles. The show was choreographed by Rahul Dev Shetty. The competition was tough since the student designers had worked hard to put together their collections, expressing themselves through fabric, color and unusual designs.

Looking very pleased, Mr.Nealesh Dalal, Managing Trustee, JD Institute of Fashion Technology, remarked, “This is a very proud moment for both our students and our Institute. Their unstinted efforts and hard work has paid off in a big way. We are so happy to provide them with a platform such as this to showcase their talents. It is amazing to see the fresh ideas in a fusion of traditional and trendy, stylish and chic. We look forward to seeing these aspiring designers make a name for themselves in the world of fashion”

The Design Awards show kicked off to an exciting start with vibrant designs from the participants. Designer Huda Khan’s TRANSMUTE collection took everyone’s breath away. It conceptualized on the ability of a flat piece of fabric to be transformed into multiple items such as garments and accessories. The collection focused on being bold, edgy, innovative and sophisticated.

Vying for attention was the PUANCHEI collection by Designer Lalnunengi presenting an ode to tradition with a call to the new generation. Focused around the traditional fabric of Mizoram, the collection depicted celebration and festivity, communicating the spirit of unitythrough simple cuts and silhouettes using bold lines.

Designer Parbani’s MATI collection was inspired by the classic “A wife’s letter” by Rabindranath Tagore and is a tribute to the strong personality using linen and silk in a mix of elements such as print and checks, variations of checks, crows and an abstract form of batik, supported by the traditional Kanthawork. The predominant colors used were rich Indian shades of red, ochre, and white, offset with beige, black and maroon.

INFERNO literally rocked the show with Designer Pavithra’s bold and adventurous depiction of the elements of one of the most violent phenomena in nature – the Volcano. The collection, inspired by rocks and lava, played with textures, colors and patterns, portraying the energy.

Designer Naga Prachita Devi’s KANCHIYUR collection drew a fresh appeal to the Kanchipuram silk fabric by incorporating them as gowns using butas from Kanchipuran temple sculptures in a rich fusion of tradition and innovation.

The TEMEROSO collection of the D Squad trio Smitha, Lavanya, Akshata played with the diverse and flexible human nature. The collection focused on the dark and mysterious facets of human nature, grunge styling with wedge silhouettes and asymmetric cutsin roughly texture black, charcoal, camel and maroon. They used materials like suede, denim, lycra and leather and accessorized the garments with boots, gloves headgears and masks.

The Jury of eminent personalities from the fashion industry clearly had a tough time choosing the winner of the evening. When they announced Designer Huda Khan as the winner of the Annual Design Awards Show 2011, his/her joy knew no bounds. This award is Huda’s gateway to the wonderful world of fashion. There was also a runner up award given to Naga Prichita Devi and the juniors had a separate category award for their hardwork and creativity.

Mr.Nealesh Dalal said, “The fashion industry abounds with opportunities today, and with rapidly changing trends in lifestyle and culture, our students are sure to make waves wherever they go. Our students have really made us proud today, just like they do every year with their distinctive styles and fresh ideas. We heartily congratulate today’s winners”
