Online PR News – 14-May-2011 – – Its tough times for authors trying to sell books through traditional methods. One has to get very clever and creative to find an audience for their work. Author Marc Freden who’s book “Really!?!: A Memoir and Other Observations From a Man Who’s Lived Life ‘Not Quite Famous Enough,’” has discovered that You Tube isn’t just a platform for personal videos and movie trailers but also can be a powerful tool in advancing awareness for his title.

By creating humorous and enticing 2-3 minute You Tube snippets teasing people about what they can find in the book, sales have started taking off. Having celebrity dish doesn’t hurt either. His first “apology” is targeted at Queen Elizabeth II and the royal family. Next up? “Oscar” and the Motion Picture Academy of Arts and Sciences. Ready for release are “apologies” to The Pope and Catholic Church, the Gay Community, finishing with Barbra Streisand. Not quite apologies, more like enticements to the reader to find out why the aforementioned might take offense to what’s in the book.

“Even with some press and a positive review in “Publishers Weekly” I wasn’t seeing the results that one would expect so my team and I sat down and came up with a strategy for promoting the book to online platforms.,” stated Freden. “We came up with a plan that we hoped would go viral propelling interest in the book to retail and internet outlets. It has started to work as we’ve started seeing upticks in sales.,” concluded Freden.

Whether it continues we shall see. One thing’s for certain. The days of authors sitting around waiting for royalties to come in are over. Authors have to get very proactive and creative to foster book sales.
