NEW YORK, NY May 12, 2009– For the first time on one stage, one concert only, Russian American stars are joining together May 17th in celebration of the ‘Old Wave’, 30 years since their immigration. Through this special music event at Millennium Theater, the heart and soul of the Russian culture will feature 17 talented performers, including a special guest from Russia, and a live band, hosted by Russian Television & Radio personality, Oleg Frish.

In the late 1970’s, the first big wave of Russian immigrants escaping persecution, settled in New York for political freedom. They found live music and entertainment in Brighton Beach an escape from their past and a push towards a happier life in America. Every weekend since then, the Brooklyn neighborhood's restaurants and nightclubs were full of music with artists such as Marina Lvovskaya, who is scheduled to perform. Veterans such as Misha Gulko, an icon of Russian lounge singing and one of the many talented performers at Old Wave sang songs of war's pain, love's loss, the cold of Siberia, and the trials of immigration. Talents performing at Old Wave such as Milen Kon, Ella Zaslavskaya, and Suzanna Tiroyan filled the hearts of many with their passion and drama in each and every song they performed. And for over 20 years, Misha Botsman sauntered around under sparkling disco balls, singing Russian and Italian love songs in the style of Burt Bacharach, taking his adoring audience to a weepy silence.

This celebration of the Old Wave showcases over seventeen superstars of the Russian entertainment scene that have immigrated in the past 30 years. A special guest performance includes Leonid Portnoy, who has released over half a dozen successful albums that was heavily, if not only, marketed towards Russian Americans. Never before have all these Russian American stars performed together. Others artists scheduled to perform include Diana Jones, Tatiana Lebedinskaya, Lev Pilshik, Nina Danchenko, Genaro, Kosta, Misha Marmar, Roman Kaminsky, and more. The ‘Old Wave’ Anniversary Concert celebrates the struggle, growth, and opportunity many Russian Americans felt immigrating to America. Expect a nostalgic look back at the Russian music many have grown to love and still appreciate today Live, One Night Only.
