Online PR News – 12-May-2011 – – Nashville singer-songwriter Ken Harrell is Michelle's Angels Foundation's 2010 Volunteer of the Year. Harrell has been involved in Michelle’s Angels since its inception in 2005. He currently serves as the nonprofit’s Musical Director and an Angel Artist. Most recently he was honored as Michelle’s Angels’ Featured Angel Artist - Summer 2010. In addition to the recognition as Volunteer of the Year as voted for by MAF volunteers, Harrell received a collectable statue of Emmett Kelly the Clown from the personal collection of the foundation's namesake Michelle R. Knoll.

MAF president, Herb Knoll, recalls first meeting Harrell when he saw him perform at the famed Bluebird Café in Nashville. Just two weeks later Herb’s wife, Michelle, was diagnosed with life-threatening cancer. During her illness, the couple founded Michelle’s Angels Foundation and reached out to support others dealing with similar health crises. Herb contacted Harrell, and said, “My bride needs a song, one to lift her spirits.” Without hesitation, Harrell crafted and produced a song titled “Michelle’s Angels.” From the debut performance at the Bluebird Café on September 17, 2005, Ken Harrell has been a generous and compassionate cornerstone of the organization. Michelle Knoll passed away March 7, 2008.

In addition, foundation president, Herb Knoll awarded the first Michelle’s Angel’s President’s Award to MAF public relations consultant, Susan Almon Pesch of Summerville, South Carolina. Recognized by Knoll as the “voice of MAF,” Almon-Pesch was honored for her contribution to the foundation’s media communications efforts since 2009.

Michelle’s Angels Foundation’s mission is to provide love, hope and assistance to people facing any one of life’s many challenges. The Angels Artists (a team of volunteer singer-songwriters) through their music on the MAF website, provide beauty and compassion--a welcome respite for many. Michelle’s Angels’ Angel Artists, musicians and volunteers give--because as the organization’s slogan states “People need to know someone cares.”

“Without the help of those who volunteer to support our efforts, the Michelle's Angels Foundation would not be able to fulfill its mission. Our volunteers and Angel Artists are the life blood of the foundation. Ken, this recognition by your peers is well deserved,” said Herb Knoll. “Each and every volunteer is a blessing. The competition for the Volunteer of the Year was intense. It’s fitting to pay tribute to two finalists--MAF Legal Counsel and Board Member, Deirdre M. Dineen of E. Greenbush, New York and MAF IT Director, Mike Bailey of Delanson, New York.”
