Chinese mobile retailers rush to get legal IMEI codes

The MSAI had initiated the appointment of genuine IMEI implantation centres at 1600 locations and the deadline for implementing genuine IMEI was December 1. Telecom providers had approached the government for some more days which were denied.

Online PR News – 04-December-2009 – – ACTING UNDER the DOT and COAI directive, the Indian government has banned over 25 million Chinese handsets having fake IMEI codes. This stands in contrast to the fact that Indian telecom retailers and manufacturers can continue imports of branded and genuine IMEI china mobiles as certified by Directorate General of Customs and Foreign Trade.
