An Initiative to augment efforts put in for Women Empowerment by strengthening Self Help Groups by Vedanta Aluminium Limited.

As a part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Vedanta Aluminium Ltd (VAL) launched a programme named “Vedanta Asha” for the empowerment of the community by intervening in there various Livelihood generating programmes and enhancing their awareness on local self governance, here today at Rengalbeda in Laikera block of Jharsuguda district. The programme will be implemented by Adarsha Social and Health Service Association (ASHA), a local NGO in Laikera and Kirmira Block of Jharsuguda District. The emphasis of project will be exclusively on strengthening women’s groups to save and access prompt credit at an affordable rate of interest for economic prosperity. The project plans to provide training and exposure to around 4000 women both from old and new groups on group management, Income Generating Activities and basic services.
Smt. Noor Vidya Tuti, Jharsuguda Zila Parisad President, Mr. Abhijit Pati, COO VAL, Dr. Bindu Sharma, Livlihood Consultant VAL, Smt D. Ekka, Dist Programme officer (ICDS), Smt. M. Roy, CDPO Kirmira block, Smt. A. Kudi, CDPO Laikera , Self Help Group Leaders, Villagers and Women Folk and Vedanta Officials were present among others.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Abhijit Pati, COO VAL said, “Strengthening women in all aspect and linking them in livelihood with our Capacity building programs is one of the major thrust areas as per our CSR intervention. As per the expectation of our major stakeholders (District administration, Elected Representatives & community), we have decided not to limit our self to our Core peripheral villages, but to take this initiatives as a Pan District program.” Role of women is of paramount importance for any social reform and Vedanta will always come forward for augmenting such noble cause, he added.
Mrs. Noor Vidya Tuti emphasized on the need of women empowerment on a pan district basis and lauded Vedanta’s efforts taken in this direction.
Dr. Bindu Sharma interacted with the women SHG leaders on this occasion.
While interacting with the Community people Dr. Meenakshi Satpathy Director ASHA said, “By such interventions, the community will enhance its awareness on utilizing its resources for enhancing their livelihoods as well put effort to claim their rights and basic services”,.
Mr. Vargil Lakra, CSR officer VAL said, “Through microenterprises women can be engaged as per the availability of local resources and its feasibility which will ensure women empowerment for their family and social needs.”
Other speakers also lauded on this noble initiative of VAL.
Dr. Meenakshi Satpathy, Director ASHA thanked Vedanta for extending their help and wished the association grows stronger with passage of time.
The programme ended with strong resolution to implement the initiative in its true spirit and action.
