European Domain Centre has opened the waiting list for the new Russian top level domain .рф domain names. More than 2 million .RU have been registered to date, and .рф is expected to be even more popular.
Online PR News – 30-November-2009 – – European Domain Centre has opened the waiting list for the new Russian top level domain .RF domain names. .RF domains consist of 100% Cyrillic characters and is designed for the 45 million Russian Internet users, who use Cyrillic characters. More than 2 million .RU have been registered to date, and .RF is expected to be even more popular.
Locally in Russia it will be the preferred domain instead of .RU, so companies doing business in Russia have a golden opportunity to secure their brand domains and other domains promoting their business.
At the moment only holders of Russian trademarks or international trademarks valid in Russia can apply. The domain name must be an exact-match of the Trademark, so the wording of the trademark has to be in Cyrillic.
From March 2010 it will be available for anyone else to register.
Actual registrations are proposed to become active one month after the approval of the Top Level Domain which could be around Q2 2010 (exact date to be announced).
Priority Registrations are handled on a first-come/first-served basis. Therefore, should more than one application be received for the same domain name, the first order received will take precedence.
