Online PR News – 23-March-2011 – – March has arrived and finally spring is upon us! With that in mind, it is time for the motorcycle community to start buffing up the chrome, tuning up their engines and preparing for the improved riding conditions.
Before you hit the road it is wise to give your vehicle a thorough once over particularly if it has been locked up in the garage for a while over the winter months. There are some basic checks that you can run without having to refer to a professional mechanic. The team at Tiger.co.uk, a leading UK bike, van and car insurance comparison site, have come up with some practical suggestions to make sure you enjoy a summer of riding and importantly, stay safe on the roads;
Before you start up the engine give the bike a good visual inspection, check the condition of the oil and levels and ensure there are no leaks. If you are prone to 'tinkering' make sure you refer back to what you were doing to make sure you haven't removed any small parts, or need to obtain replacement parts. Make sure you charge the battery, and check tyre pressure, brake fluid, cable lubricant and the coolant level. If you have left the bike resting over the winter it is advisable to drain the fuel tank, give it a clean and re-fill it. The reason for this is that any air in the tank will have moisture in it which will condense in to water.
Once you are happy with these things it is safe to start up the engine, make sure you allow it to warm up without excessive revving. When the engine is up and running you can check all the lights including the indicators and make sure your engine cut-out switch is operational.
A spokesperson from Tiger.co.uk said “Our practical hints and tips are not a comprehensive guide, but aim to provide general information on how to prepare your bike for the summer season, particularly if it has been stored away for some time. We are aiming to include this and other useful information for drivers in guide format on the Tiger.co.uk site”
If there is anything we have missed or if riders would like to add any extra checks they can do so by visiting the site and leaving comments for us. Alongside that we are increasing our already 34 partner strong, bike insurance panel in the run up to summer by introducing 3 more new partners; Renew Insurance, Likewise and The Bike Devil over the coming weeks. Bikers will also be able to get a quotation for third party only cover shortly " all of which should help riders keep the cost of summer riding to a minimum. Any keen rider will hopefully benefit from visiting the site to see if we can save them a bit of money or pick up some useful tips for the coming season"
