Happy Ending for Groeschel's Submerged Chevy Suburban

Dan Groeschel, whose Chevy Suburban broke through the ice and sank to the bottom of Lake Winnebago in February while on an ice fishing trip has replaced the vehicle with a new model Chevy Suburban from Holiday Automotive in Fond du Lac. Groeschel credits the fact that the Suburban stayed afloat for nearly 10 minutes as a contributing factor in their rescue.

Groeschel, a resident of Pipe, and a passenger, Dan Galle were rescued with the help of two passers-by -- Ryan Schaefer and his father in-in-law James Krueger, both of Manitowoc. Using a tow rope the two were able to pull Galle and Groeschel to firm ice and safety without injury. The truck was eventually recovered from the bottom of the lake. Groeschel credits replacement coverage he had purchased with his auto insurance with the swift replacement.
