London based fine art photographer gallery Albumen Gallery takes on international representation of Bolivian photographer Diego Echevers Torrez.

Online PR News – 25-August-2020 – London – Bolivian Photographer Diego Echevers Torrez has chosen London based Albumen Gallery for international representation of his work. In Bolivia Echevers Torrez is best known and respected for his intensely expressive portrait and still life photography.

Echevers Torrez has a background in Architecture and Anthropology. Alongside his private work he currently teaches Photography at the Universidad Mayor de San Simón. Echevers Torrez first picked up a camera in1997 as a student for research purposes in connection with architecture and anthropology study projects .

Whilst Echevers Torrez' photography is to some extent informed by his background in anthropology his work has transcended its documentary origins. Echevers Torrez pays homage to the people and culture of his country as well as addressing social concerns such as increasing inequality and industrialisation endangering their traditional way of life. Commenting on his approach to photography he says "for me photography is not a literal transcription of reality. Photography is a poetic interpretation of life. Photography allows me to give visual meaning to our world."

Diego Echevers Torrez's chosen medium is Analogue Photography and he uses mostly medium format and large format cameras. The process driven nature of analogue photography has become an important integral part of his creative hand crafted way of working - even including some of the base materials and chemicals. Economic conditions and restrictions in Bolivia have forced him to produce some of the chemicals and material used in his work himself - something he now appreciates as integral part of the overall creative process.
