Award Winning writer director Alasdair Mackay defies the economic crises of the pandemic to crowd fund his micro budget addiction film Anonymous.
Online PR News – 05-August-2020 – LONDON, 5 August 2020 – East London based award-winning writer and director Alasdair Mackay has successfully raised £18000 for his film Anonymous through crowdfunding. In spite of the financial difficulties that lockdown brought on, the film’s subject matter of mental health, addiction and suicide connected with 221 contributors from 16 different countries.
Statistics show that more than a third of people with a history of addiction have relapsed while in recovery and a YouGov poll also showed and increase in addictive behavior in young adults and children as young as 12 during the COVID -19 Crisis. Anonymous a film inspired by the potential impact of lockdown on the mental health of individuals suffering from addiction.
Anonymous highlights important issues around addiction and the mental health associated with it. In particular:
- Connection and support – set in real time at an AA meeting, where stories inspired by true accounts will be shared and could give hope to others who feel they don’t have a support network.
- Different types of addiction - many people only think of alcohol or drugs but Anonymous highlights other gateway drugs and addictions that many may not think of, such as money or food, that the characters recognize as issues that have taken a hold on their lives and this may give a realization to others who may not realize that certain things in their life may have a stronger hold on them then they realize.
- The indiscriminatory nature of addiction – addiction does not discriminate against race and we are casting colourblind to ensure that as many people as possible identify with the characters. Nor does it care about age, as previously mentioned, class or gender. We all have the potential to be affected by addiction.
Alasdair Mackay said, “we are overwhelmed by the support we’ve received from friends an even people we’ve never met before. It’s humbling to know we’re telling a story that connects with people so strongly. We decided to use crowdfunding to raise the money for Anonymous as it gives us more artistic control with everything from casting to the overall message of the film. We’re also excited to have Lukas Hinch from The Stolen starring Alice Eve in the lead role.”
The film is currently in production and is looking to shoot at the end of August 2020.
