Virtual Reality Exhibition of artwork made in Quarantine
23 May- 22 June 2020
For the first time in recent history, people across the world are united by a common experience. The exhibition Another Time is a Virtual reality Exhibition of artists from 6 continents, showcasing artwork made during a period of quarantine or self-isolation. All artists exhibiting in Another Time are part of the ‘Quarantine Residency’ project, an experimental online residency program connecting artists and curators across the world. The VR exhibition can be accessed from 24th May on our website quarantineresidency.com.
The exhibited works are selected from a total of more than 600 artists from 82 countries and regions, who submitted more than 2000 artworks, in media that ranged from painting and photography to installation, new media and performance.
In addition to their artwork, each artist also submitted an account of their experience of quarantine, as well as a photograph of where they have been spending their quarantine.
There will be both a VR exhibition and 2D virtual gallery space. The VR exhibition will allow people from around the world to interact in the space, creating a space ‘without borders’ for people to experience and discuss art. The virtual gallery gives the audience the chance to see the artworks with a high resolution and read the stories and experiences of the artists.
Beyond the exhibition
The Quarantine Residency is an Online Artist Residency program. Selected artists participate in an online program of discussions, critiques and artists talks.
Gallery exhibitions of the project will take place with our partners in Turkey, Tanzania, Indonesia, Australia and China after the pandemic.
The QR team is also creating a “Quarantine Museum”, a digital library of the thousands of artworks and experiences collected during this time. Although the applications for the Online Residency have closed, applications for the Quarantine Museum will remain open.
