Students from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business launch a Kickstarter campaign for Sayf, a social discovery mobile application that also supports contact tracing to help eliminate pandemics like coronavirus (COVID-19).

Social discovery is the practice of connecting with the people you interact with regularly in your day to day life. Sayf uses your phone’s built-in capabilities to help you learn more about the community and people who are ordinarily in your social contact zone. Sayf journals your day for you when you choose to engage the social discovery function, allowing you to better connect with others who share your interest and whose lives naturally intersect with your own. Your strongest and most fulfilling relationships - whether friendships, professional or romantic - are built on a foundation of shared values, including something as simple as where you like to spend your time.

One of the added benefits of social discovery is contact tracing to help prevent pandemics like coronavirus (COVID-19). When you enable social discovery on Sayf, if someone in your contact zone is diagnosed with an infectious illness, a licensed medical professional can alert you anonymously by sending a notification to the app so you can seek medical care and take precautions before you risk infecting your family, friends, co-workers and the community at large.

Sayf is designed with privacy and transparency in mind. You can use Sayf without signing in or providing any personal information. You may also choose to sign in using a social media account to allow for deeper connections with your community based on shared interests. No matter how you use Sayf, your personal information is kept completely private and secure.

The goal of Sayf is to help us all create a more connected and safer world. You can support the mission by donating at your comfort level and by helping raise awareness of the campaign through posts on social media and by sharing the Kickstarter campaign link with your friends.
