As businesses duck for cover during the COVID-19 crisis there is a pivot from face to face training delivery to online methods as staff work from their homes.
Online PR News – 08-April-2020 – Coventry, Warwickshire, UK – COVID-19 has left thousands of staff working from home. Just how are companies supporting their homeworkers in terms of their personal development? Are they being left to fester or are they being invested in, even during these troubled times?
Skillshub CEO, Sean McPheat reports massive swings in the types of training that his group of personal development companies are having to make to cope with the homeworking demands of staff during the COVID-19 crisis.
McPheat states "Our holding company, MTD Training, has been impacted greatly because it focuses on face to face training. We've had over 80 training projects placed on hold. Most of these have been transitioned into webinars and virtual training. Our elearning firm, Skillshub, has never been busier"
Skillshub is a learning platform and elearning content provider where companies can pay for their staff to access the material as and when they need it in their moment of need. The elearning content consists of hundreds of short, microlearning sessions that range anything from 60 seconds through to 5 minutes.
"Organisations are using virtual training methods more and more. You've probably been invited to attend a LIVE webinar of some sorts yourself during the past couple of weeks. Everyone seems to be creating a webinar as the training industry pivots to online approaches. We're no different and the number of webinars and requests for access to our elearning content has increased by about 400%"
There seems to be a requirement for training materials instantly as there is also a drop in demand for bespoke elearning services where businesses commission a specific and tailored online training programme based around their exact requirements.
McPheat comments "This is no surprise really. It takes time to custom develop an elearning project from scratch. There are so many stakeholders that need to input into the project and this is hard to co-ordinate in the current climate. Businesses are wanting an immediate solution and our library of 2,000 elearning resources provides just that. It's a plug and play service, available within 24 hours"
As people work from home they will need to keep their skills and motivation levels high and providing online training opportunities will help with their engagement and show them that they are not being forgotten about.
We'll wait and see if this support continues in the coming months as times get tougher.
