The popular vegan-vegetarian restaurant, which the pandemic closed for business about two weeks ago – has re-opened for curbside pick-up and at-home delivery.

A vegan plate, a wheat-free vegan plate and a vegetarian plate, all with seven items, are available for under $8 each, and in less than five minutes.
“Just pull up in the parking lot and we are there to serve you blessed food cooked with love,” said Govinda’s founder and on-site director, Sandamini Cooksey. “We’re also partnering with Door Dash, which will deliver meals directly to the homes of those who can’t come to us, free of charge. We rely on our customers who appreciate fresh healthy food and continue to support us.”
Ms. Cooksey added, “We’re taking the coronavirus threat very seriously and have taken every precaution to ensure a safe and enjoyable dining experience. This includes sanitizing all kitchen equipment, hard surfaces, handrails and door handles. Our staff will be wearing safety masks as an extra precaution. Everyone at Govinda’s is following social distancing guidelines.”
Govinda’s is located at 711 East Blacklidge Drive in Tucson and is open for lunch, Tuesday thru Saturday, from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm. The restaurant is closed on Monday, and the Sunday brunch has been discontinued until social distancing protocols are lifted. For now Govinda’s doesn’t serve dinner. Govinda’s offers a tantalizing variety of vegetables; organic tofu, tempeh, and panir (fresh-cheese) dishes; basmati rice; lentil vegetable soup; savory beans; organic salad (with choice of dressing); lentil and chips; and fruit halava for dessert. As a first-week promotion, Govinda’s will include its delicious whole wheat seeded bread with each lunch plate at no extra charge.
Some items are a la carte and not included in the $8 lunch plate price. These include vegetable samosas with coconut chutney ($2.50); a veggie pizza slice ($2.50); mango lassi, ginger beer, coconut water and other drinks (ranging in price from $1.00-$3.50), plus Govinda’s famous desserts, which include chocolate cake, carrot cake, and berry cheesecake ($3-$3.50 per slice).
This is the second time in less than a year that Govinda’s had to close due to circumstances beyond its control. Last July, it sustained extensive fire damage when a blaze next door blew onto its property, causing massive destruction to the kitchen, storage room, and walk-in cooler. This obliged the staff who live on-site to also close their boutique and yoga temple.
