Identity Experts Hands Over 365Mapper Open Source Code to GitHub's Community of Developers

Identity Experts are releasing the source code for their hugely successful 365Mapper tool to GitHub - heralding a new era of development.

Online PR News – 04-December-2019 – United Kingdom – After years of service, identity and access management specialists Identity Experts are retiring their 365Mapper product - and handing the open source code over to GitHub's community of developers.

Since its release, 365Mapper has been a staple of Identity Experts' offering, allowing its users to map their Office 365 document library to a Windows machine. As a result, organisations were able to harness the power of the cloud without paying lucrative retraining costs and allowing secure access from anywhere at any time.

As the company's focus continues to shift towards delivering training courses and implementing a growing roster of partner technologies, 365Mapper's retirement became an unavoidable eventuality. Rather than allow the product to simply die off, however, Identity Experts' team have decided instead to release 365Mapper's source code to GitHub.

From 1st January 2020, Identity Experts will gift the product and its source code to the developer community at large by releasing it under GPL v3 licensing. The 365Mapper service will continue to support legacy versions until 31st December 2019. The company hopes that this move will see the platform's users put 365Mapper's source code to use in their own projects, allowing Identity Experts to give back to the developer community.

Speaking on the move, Identity Experts' CEO, David Murrell, highlighted the "imagination and ingenuity available within the community" which will help 365Mapper to "really explore its potential and be spun into something greater through innovation and collaboration."

"As much as we and our customers love 365Mapper, we felt the time was right to move away from its maintenance to focus on bigger objectives," David continued "but rather than waste the code by scrapping it, we feel like we can contribute something more by releasing it open source on a trusted platform like GitHub."

To prepare for the upcoming changes, Identity Experts have announced a new version of 365Mapper, designed to bridge the transition to this new model. v2.0.0.0 includes all the latest enhancements and fixes, whilst also expanding the product's management capabilities, and decoupling any legacy dependencies to better support the open source release.

Although this is goodbye, the Identity Experts team will maintain a presence on GitHub to answer any pressing questions, and to throw a well-deserved spotlight on the developments birthed from 365Mapper's open source.

Meanwhile, the IAM and security specialists are toasting the opening of a new chapter through their growing number of partnerships and release of new products, such as the identity maturity assessment.
