- London-born, professional basketball player, Jerelle Okoro, launches kickstarter campaign for new green tea drink, VODO despite tough upbringing

Online PR News – 12-November-2019 – UK- London – Professional British basketball player Jerelle Okoro today launches a Kickstarter campaign (VODO: the perfect drink) to fund his infused green tea venture, VODO. VODO is a fresh, sweet, drink providing immune-boosting antioxidants, helping people stay physically and mentally healthy.

The tea's first run, of over 2,500 units, sold out in just two weeks, and now Jerelle is encouraging people to be a part of the kickstarter, so he can secure £20,000, to boost production and grow the business.

Jerelle created the first batch while playing for the London Lions in the British Basketball League. Although he still plays the game, the reaction was so good, he decided to go 'all in' with VODO.

The story behind VODO is unique. Jerelle has had to overcome many challenges in his life - one of the core reasons behind VODO's philosophy - and practice - of "turning bitter things sweet."

He had a difficult childhood; born in Enfield, Jerelle picked up a basketball at the age of 14 but was homeless at 17. His luck changed when he was offered a basketball scholarship at Loughborough University. He focused on staying healthy, mentally and physically and would drink green tea to help his nutritional intake, but it wasn't good enough for him as an athlete and young businessman.

Jerelle entered a young Enterprise programme. His project - a twist on regular green tea flavours to help body and mind - was noticed by giant drinks manufacturer, Refresco, which gave him the skills and resources to start his drinks brand. He has since designed, manufactured and sold VODO to the point where demand has outweighed supply - leading to the Kickstarter campaign.

Jerelle Okoro, Founder of VODO, said: "I realised a lot of athletes were drinking green tea but it tasted too bitter. I wanted to turn that bitterness, sweet, which is a mentality I've had with other challenges in my life too.

I needed a drink that would help keep me invigorated and focused while playing basketball. We call it strangely nice because people have been really surprised by how much they enjoy it.

Consumers have really resonated with the motivational, positive element of the brand too. We sold the first batch so quickly and have launched a kickstarter campaign to boost production and fulfill demand. It's an exciting time for VODO."
