To obtain seamless connectivity to Malaysian content and also to improve overall customer experience in the Philippines.
Online PR News – 08-October-2019 – Kuala Lumpur – Globe Telecom, a major provider of telecommunications services in the Philippines, peers with participants at Johor Bahru Internet Exchange (JBIX), the second Internet Exchange in Malaysia. By joining JBIX, Globe Telecom is able to minimise the latency of its IP network, specifically with its connectivity to Malaysian content. With its hub located in Open DC JB1 data centre in Menara Cyberport, JBIX is the first to open its door to any party, including international ISP and enterprises, to peer in the Internet Exchange.
Weng Yew Wong the Managing Director of Extreme Broadband and the Chief Peering Officer of JBIX says
"JBIX welcomes our first Philippines participant. As one of the largest telecommunication companies in the Philippines, Globe Telecom brought to JBIX traffic from about 93 million subscribers from the Philippines. JBIX will provide to Globe the direct connectivity to not only Malaysian and regional content, but also the traffic from the many Philippines nationals residing in Malaysia who wish to stay connected to their home country."
"As a fast growing player in data centre and Internet exchange services, JBIX is committed to developing a connectivity ecosystem that will benefit the regional Internet," Weng ends.
"We are enthusiastic to join JBIX and to bring the enhanced connectivity of regional content to our valued customers," said Gil Genio, Chief Technology and Information Officer of Globe. Moreover, we're also eager to deliver this low-latency, cost-efficient connectivity to our customers and add further value to Globe Telecom network capabilities."
Currently JBIX has 40 over companies peered including Globe Telecom, Google, Twitter, AWS and Yahoo! Other players are from industries such as IT solutions, education, service providers, and web hosting providers. A number of non-ISP-licensed companies have also peered with JBIX.
Port charges are maintained at the lowest price and will be based on a cost recovery model to attract and benefit more users. Peering is an important tool that keeps traffic local by ensuring internet traffic is exchanged directly at the internet exchange (IX) instead of having to travel through multiple providers and long distances overseas.
Johor Bahru Internet Exchange (JBIX) is the second Internet Exchange in Malaysia and is located in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. The Open DC data centre (where JBIX is hosted) is located at an MSC-status building 2KM away from the causeway linking Singapore and Malaysia.
JBIX is an open, carrier-neutral, membership-free Internet Exchange Point that runs on a carrier-grade high capacity low latency switching platform that can scale from 10 Gigabit up to Terabit capacity. The private initiative by Extreme Broadband Sdn Bhd, will facilitate the mutual peering between different business organisations such as in the education and financial sector, OTT content providers, regional and local Internet Service Providers (ISPs), hosting companies and more
JBIX is currently run and maintained by the Open DC IP Core network team. Open DC is a wholly owned subsidiary of Extreme Broadband Sdn. Bhd., a licensed ISP in Malaysia.
