Published in November 2018, EN 648:2018 supersedes the 2006 iteration of the standard. It includes several changes, of which stakeholders should be aware. These include:

• Moist food - (90 ± 3) ï‚°C for 0.5 hours in water
• Provides procedure for large samples (Annex A)
• New definition for (unstained) glass fiber paper - includes a pH-value of 9.0 to 9.5 (ISO 6588-2) as one of the conditions
• Replacing 'saliva simulant' with 'alkaline salt solution' as simulant
The new standard requires Member States to withdraw conflicting standards by May 2019. Stakeholders are advised to now check their products against the latest version of EN 648.
