Preston, Lancashire 05/12/18
Today sees the launch of Fighting Minds, an organisation founded by former armed service personnel in conjunction with a unique training company who help people overcome disability at work. The new service supports Service Leavers and Veterans who may face barriers in the workplace as a result of a disability or medical condition.
With experience working with transitioning veterans, Fighting Minds provide a range of proven skills and support for Ex-servicemen/women who are having difficulty with physical or mental barriers in employment. This can involve help getting funding, as well as bespoke coping strategies designed to make the transition back into civilian life easier.
Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with results showing that the strategies put in place have not only assisted the individuals in question, but greatly improved their self-worth, as well as helping employers get the best out of their former service personnel staff. Respected former serving personnel, such as Afghanistan Veteran and Conspicuous Gallantry Cross recipient Simon Maloney CGC (formerly of the Household Cavalry) have overwhelmingly endorsed the project.
Mr Maloney states: "People assume that service leavers have it all figured out, but often leaving the forces can be a shock. Add a disability or mental health issue into the mix and it can be very hard to transition back into being a civilian. Fighting Minds is there to help with the transition and resettlement of ex-forces, utilising its wonderful staff of former service personnel and psychologists, each one dedicated to transforming lives for the better."
