Online PR News – 11-October-2018 – Los Angeles-area, CA – Structural Focus President David Cocke, SE, F.SEI, F.ASCE is adding a new distinction to his name, F.SEAOC. David was inducted into the Structural Engineers Association of California (SEAOC) College of Fellows. The organization welcomed five new members to its ranks on September 14, 2018. "The SEAOC Board of Directors established the College of Fellows in 1994 to honor esteemed members who have provided distinguished service to the association and made outstanding contributions in the field of structural engineering. There are currently 139 living members in the College. Each SEAOC member organization nominates prospective fellows based on a set of criteria that includes demonstrated skill and achievement in structural engineering, contributions to the profession through publication or presentations, service to their Member Organization or SEAOC, and service to the public through participation on boards and bodies relevant to structural engineering."
"It was a real thrill to be inducted into the College of Fellows and join so many colleagues, friends, and mentors that I have admired and respected over the course of my career," expressed David. "I often think back about their influence on me and I can only hope to have such a positive influence on today's young engineers."
Throughout his career, David Cocke has served in many leadership roles and on numerous Boards of Directors of professional engineering and preservation organizations. He is currently the President of the Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) and serves on the board of Los Angeles Conservancy, the California Historical Building Safety Board and just termed off of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute Board of Directors. Based on his commitment to Structural Engineering over the last 38 years, he has received many honors from his peers including Fellow, American Society of Civil Engineers and Fellow, Structural Engineering Institute, as well as Honorary Member of the Structural Engineers Association of Southern California. His participation on the board of SEI's Futures Fund has encouraged and promoted investment in the future of structural engineering, particularly for young professionals.
