Jose's Mexican Restaurant in LaJolla, Calif. will host the first ever flauta eating championship on December 6th, 2009.
Online PR News – 06-November-2009 – – Nationally recognized local icon Jose’s announced today that it will host the first ever sanctioned World Flauta-Eating Contest. Billed as the Jose’s World Flauta Eating Championship this event is expected to draw the worlds top competitive eaters in the final scheduled for December 6th, 2009.
Sanctioned by the International Federation of Competitive Eating (IFOCE), Jose’s World Flauta Eating Championship will be the first time the IFOCE has crowned a Flauta-eating world champion.
The championship final will feature Jose’s famous “Chicken Flauta”. Looking a lot like a rolled taco the Flauta is a 1.5 ounce delight of shredded chicken wrapped in a flour tortilla and deep fried to a crispy golden brown. The chicken Flauta has been one of the restaurants signature items since the early 1970’s and organizers of the event anticipate the top athletes will consume more than 50 Flautas in the allotted time period.
The Jose’s World Flauta Eating Championship will award a $2,000 first prize and is poised to instantly become a major event on the international competitive eating circuit. The winners of each of the six qualifying events will earn a chance to compete against the pros at the final championship table in La Jolla, Ca. where Jose’s is headquartered. In addition to the $2,000 first prize, Jose’s will offer $1,000 to the second place finisher and $500 to the third place eater.
"This will be the first ever sanctioned Flauta eating competition and a world record will be set,” says local restaurateur Bill McHugh of Jose’s. “We’re proud to be hosting this event and we couldn’t think of a better location than in beautiful La Jolla. Jose’s has been a favorite hangout for locals as well as visitors from around the globe and this is just another way for us to bring new excitement to an old favorite”
San Diego’s Its All About the Kids Foundation will be the beneficiary of the fundraising portion of the event. “It’s All About the Kids is committed to the advancement of children through the joining of music, the arts and the generosity of corporations and individuals,” says executive director Angela Brannon. “It is a 501 c(3) non profit organization with new and innovative programs to benefit children’s charities and enhance the lives of less fortunate children.”
Partying for a Purpose is the fundraising branch of It’s All About the Kids, which produces fundraisers to support the Foundation and other worthy charities for those in need. “The more we live our dreams, the more we can become an example for the children that we impact,” says Brannon. “We have more children in need than ever before and our goal is to raise over 1000 toys this year. We will be accepting unwrapped toys and monetary donations prior to and during the event. More information on our organization can be found at www.itsallaboutthekids.org.”
