The Gagliardi company is one of Matelica Verdicchio' s historic wineries. Begun in the Forties it was one of the first companies devoted to the, production and commercialisation of Verdicchio di Matelica, and the first to sell it in bottles. The geographical situation of the cellars is one of the best suited to vine cultivation. Its particular microclimate and altitude ( from 300 to 600 metres ) mean that each grape variety can express its own special characteristics. The Vini Gagliardi winery cultivates 15 hectares 12 of which are devoted to Verdicchio grapes and 3 to red grape varieties (Sangiovese, Merlot, Ciliegiolo ).
The cellars today continue to be a family-run enterprise, involving Gino Gagliardi and his children. His son, Umberto, who graduated in wine production at the Ascoli Piceno School of Wines and is responsible for production and commercialisation: and daughter Lara, who is in charge of administration. The annual production of the cellars is about 2.500 hl of wine. The area where the wine-making, stocking, and bottling operations take place covers 1.350 square metres and can be found in via Merloni Matelica.
