The 16th Annual Scottish Games and Festival returns to the Clay County Fairgrounds

Jacksonville, FL – February 10, 2011 - The vibrant sounds of the pipes and drums are coming to NE Florida as the 16th Annual Scottish Games and Festival returns to the area. The pageantry, colorful Tartans, lively competition and all-around family fun take place at the Clay County Fairgrounds Saturday, February 26th.

Online PR News – 17-February-2011 – – There is no event more traditional, colorful or downright enjoyable…with highland dancing and contests of skill and strength, marching and music, and foods of all types to please every eye and palate. This annual event draws clan members and visitors alike from throughout the United States and Canada.

Promoted by the Clay County Tourist Development Division, the Northeast Florida Scottish Games and Festival has become one of the premier family events in the Jacksonville area. There is a full day of festivities and fun for the whole family, including music and dancing, challenges of strength and food for all. And don’t forget the beauty and pageantry of the Parade of the Clans; it will be a day to remember. After the Games closing, there will be a free traditional Ceilidh (musical evening) until everyone goes home. Get there early though, as the games start at 9 a.m. and don’t end until after 10 p.m.

Traditional contests of athletic prowess include the classic caber toss, the hammer throw, the sheaf toss and the stone of strength toss. Pipers and drummers of all ages will compete, and you might even catch a glimpse of some kilt-attired musicians rocking out on more contemporary instruments.
