Online PR News – 16-February-2011 – – With help from friends, family and local businesses, South Florida couple Brad and Ranee Schafer are organizing a one-of-a-kind large-scale event on March 19 called The Courageous Race. In partnership with Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society, The Courageous Race will help raise much-needed funds for the cancer treatments of the Schafer’s three year-old niece Jordyn Gourley. Jordyn was recently diagnosed with a rare form of cancer that spread to her brain, lymph nodes and lungs and she is currently undergoing a year-long regime of chemotherapy.

The Parkland couple modeled The Courageous Race after the popular TV show The Amazing Race. Kicking off at 12:00 pm at the Parkland YMCA (Pine Trails Park), 4-member teams will race throughout Parkland, Coral Springs and Coconut Creek completing unique challenges at various businesses to earn points. Should they not wish to attempt any challenge, participants can “buy out” the challenge for the points, which will then be donated back to the charity. Challenge locations include World of Beer, Pasquale’s, Sir Pizza, Carvel and Weidensky’s, to name a few.

A post-race awards celebration and concert featuring a lineup of four great bands, including headliners the Amber Leigh Band, will begin at 3:00 pm at the Pine Trails Park amphitheater. Local restaurants will serve food and drinks (including beer) with many games and activities for children of all ages.

Organizers are hopeful that three-year-old Jordyn will be healthy enough to attend the race and festival being carried out in support of her as she strives to live cancer-free. The public is invited to learn more about Jordyn and the upcoming event by visiting: http://www.courageousrace.com.
