The New York Fashion Week seasons continues with the upcoming Fall/Winter 2018 edition, and CAAFD is putting together another world-class offering. CAAFD (CAAFD stands for the Council of Aspiring American Fashion Designers) will be hosting shows for Port Zienna, Mouton Blanc and Zabetta Couture. These events will be showcasing the best of the new crop of emerging designers, a tradition CAAFD has enjoyed for over a decade. New York Fashion Week will be taking place from February 8th to the 16th, and this collective showcase will be taking place on February 10th at 6 PM, located at Inustria on 775 Washington St. Fashion guru and noted producer Resk ‘Que will be producing these shows, continuing his trend with CAAFD.
Hailing from Lima, Peru, Port Zienna’s founder Francesca Canepa will have a platform with CAAFD at this year’s New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter season. Port Zienna’s inspirations come from haute couture as a way to make ready-to-wear fashion. Canepa has studied all over the world and has incorporated inspiration from her past work experiences, which includes work for Oscar de la Renta, and J. Mendel. Under the careful supervision of her mentor Ani Alvarez-Calderon, her fashion line will be making headlines around the world in the coming months.
Mouton Blanc’s young energetic designer Hakuyo Miya has his eyes set to raise the bar at this year’s New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter season. Having studied in Paris at the Atelier Chardon Savard, he uses his interest in the fantasy realm to bring his creations to life. The influence of France is also readily apparent in the name Mouton Blanc, which is french for White Sheep. Seeing his creations in person are a magical experience that you can’t experience from just a computer monitor.
Zabetta Couture will be rounding out the collective showcase with a style that exemplifies the natural beauty and mystique of women’s silhouettes. Ruth Zabetta, the designer for Zabetta Couture, has a unique cultural perspective that she weaves into her designs. Combining her birthplace of New York with the cultures of Spain and the Dominican Republic where she was raised, Zabetta Couture has a flavor unlike anything else.
Port Zienna emerged from the draping tradition of haute couture to create a ready-to-wear line of uniquely contoured clothing. Port Zienna’s founder, Francesca Canepa, was born in Lima, Peru. She earned a BA in Fashion Design and Patternmaking from Mod’Art International in Paris and later earned a postgraduate degree in Fashion Marketing and Merchandising from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. She has experience designing at fashion houses such as Oscar de la Renta, J.Mendel, and with her mentor Ani Álvarez-Calderón, and has designed embroideries for Burberry, Tom Ford, Carolina Herrera, and Monique Lhuillier while working at Finesse Embroideries.
Mouton Blanc designer Hakuyo Miya is a young Japanese fashion designer who has studied in Paris at the Atelier Chardon Savard. His work is heralded by many as a perfect combination of beauty and fantasy, two of his biggest interests in life.
