Punch Communications, the integrated PR, SEO and Social Media agency with a global client base, believes that UK and European businesses are not embracing the benefits of social media as effectively as top companies in the USA.

Online PR News – 03-February-2011 – – Punch Communications, the integrated PR, SEO and social media agency with a global client base, believes that UK and European businesses are not embracing the benefits of social media as effectively as top companies in the USA.

Having conducted in-house research, Punch has discovered that whilst FTSE 100 companies have made a significant effort in the last 12 months to communicate and engage with their respective audiences through social media channels, this only goes to show how little was undertaken by big business previously.

Here are some of the interesting facts: 50 per cent more are using Twitter compared to twelve months ago, and there has been a 200 per cent increase in the number of corporate blogs, but these increases merely indicate how few companies were engaged in social media twelve months ago. The truth is, even on Twitter – the platform with the biggest uptake – the percentage of companies using the service is below 50 per cent. The FTSE100 has some catching up to do compared to their American counterparts.

Ed Fleming at SEO agency Punch Communications commented: “The basic research we have undertaken clearly shows how beneficial a great social media presence can be for a brand – big or small. The work we have undertaken for a number of brands over the last few years has taught us, and our clients, just how invaluable social media engagement can be.”

PR company Punch Communications manages Facebook and Twitter platforms for a number of large UK and European-based clients and has seen dramatic community growth for these clients across both networks. The Punch team has a unique take on how to best get the most out of social media and is happy to talk to any potential businesses looking to start an engagement programme.

With more and more businesses transferring budget to platforms like Facebook, rivals do not want to be left out in the cold and Punch urges business to come to them to make a significant difference to brand perception and, ultimately, sales.
