Taiwan introduces regulations to ban the use of fifteen substances, including safrole, in the manufacture of cosmetic products.
Online PR News – 06-January-2018 – Geneva, Switzerland – The Taiwanese Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) has introduced regulations to ban the importation, manufacture, sale and distribution of cosmetics containing fifteen different substances.

12. Cerbera manghas L.
13. Ranunculus L., (Ranunculaceae)
14. Crotalaria sessiliflora L.
15. Dioscorea hispida Dennst.
16. Gelsemium elegans Benth.
17. Stellera chamaejasme L.
18. Anemone hupehensis Lemoine
In the main, the use of these ingredients is prohibited but there are minimal exemptions relating to safrole, verbena and amorphophallus rivieri durieu. In the case of the safrole, products containing the raw material which comes from lauraceae, with a content of safrole/shikimol not exceeding 100ppm in the final product, are permitted. In the case of verbena essential oils, verbena absolute is permitted, and for amorphophallus rivieri Durieu (Amorphophallus konjac), it can be used if it has undergone a refinery process and detoxification for food use.
These restrictions were originally published in notice No. 1061608566 on December 8. 2017. The ban will come into force on July 1, 2018.
