Patients struggling with urology issues can get answers about symptoms at treatment at talk in early February.
Online PR News – 27-January-2011 – – Burlington, NC - January 27, 2011 – Burlington area urologist Dr. Michael R. Wolff plans to present an “Ask the Doctor” session at Grand Oaks Center, Alamance Regional Campus, 1238 Huffman Mill Road on Thursday, February 10 from 6 until 7 p.m. Patients can attend the talk to ask questions about symptoms and treatments of conditions like prostate cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Dr. Wolff is known for his interest and promotion of treatments that help patients preserve their quality of life. During the talk, he plans to introduce patients to minimally invasive treatments for both BPH and prostate cancer. Cooled thermotherapy is one of these. Cooled thermotherapy uses heat energy to destroy prostatic tissue, while the tissues in the urethra are cooled to prevent damage. This requires no surgery and offers an effective, low-risk option to treat both conditions.
Dr. Wolff also promotes high intensity focused ultrasound, or HIFU , as a treatment for these conditions, and plans to address this at the talk. “HIFU offers patients a treatment option with a high rate of success.” Stated Dr. Wolff. “Since it uses sound waves, which pass through surrounding tissue without damage, it greatly lowers the risk of side effects that can severely alter a patient’s life.”
Currently, HIFU is not offered in he United States, but Dr. Wolff feels it is an effective treatment that patients need to be aware of. Patients interested in HIFU can travel to international health clinics to have it performed. Dr. Wolff will then follow up with those patients at his Burlington clinic.
The February 10 talk is designed as a question and answer format. This allows those in attendance to interact with Dr. Wolff, rather than just sitting back and listening to a lecture.
