Jewelry designer Kim Jakum, in association with The Artisan Group, will participate in the official celebrity gift lounge in honor of The 46th Annual CMA Awards on October 29 – November 1, 2012 at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.
Online PR News – 30-October-2012 – Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin – Metalmorphis (http://www.metalmorphis.etsy.com), owned by jewelry artist Kim Jakum, will be introducing its jewelry to the biggest names in country music backstage at The 46th Annual CMA Awards taking place October 29 – November 1, 2012 at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN, by including the company’s photo business cards in celebrity gift bags.
The cards showcase some of Jakum’s most eye-catching and popular designs, including her "Tiger Maple and Fine Silver Cuff" and her signature "Children's Artwork Keychains." This event will also be attended by over 25 media and press outlets.
When The Artisan Group invited Jakum to take part in the CMA Awards gifting she had to get creative. "With an already busy production schedule, I was fairly certain I would not be able to create the required 85 pieces by the deadline, so I opted to include business cards instead," said Jakum. “The business cards are luxe and the pieces I showcase are distinctive so they should catch a few eyes. I think this will be a great way to introduce my work to some of Country Music’s most accomplished artists.”
At her home studio in Elkhart Lake, Jakum creates her handmade personalized and custom jewelry primarily in Fine Silver Precious Metal Clay. She fashions her necklaces, bracelets, earrings, rings and other accessories using sculptural, metalworking and photopolymer techniques, as well as carving and beadwork. The final step for many of Kim’s pieces is a labor intensive, hand-applied satin finish.
Jakum’s pieces display unique textural elements and often have a “surprise” element. “It’s a given that a piece will have a nice finish in the round, but I have taken it to a new level by including something special on the back of many of my pieces,” noted Jakum. “It could be a personal message or symbol that’s visible only to the wearer, or a complementary motif that allows the piece to be reversible.
Jakum is also known for her keepsake jewelry that incorporates drawings, writing and signatures. “My clients are definitely into personalization. I have expanded the idea by integrating something incredibly personal, signatures, writing and artwork,” said Jakum. “My pendants and key chains with children’s drawings, for example, have really taken off. Parents and grandparents love them and I enjoy creating them.”
Some of Kim's favorite pieces to create are those where she gets to indulge her most creative side. These pieces, which satisfy her fashion forward clients, incorporate sophisticated textures with unusual juxtapositions of materials such as wood and metal and have won her recognition in the art jewelry world.
Jakum has designed jewelry for celebrities Mila Kunis, Amy Poehler and Mariska Hargitay. Most recently, she sent her "Oxidized Fine Silver and Almadine Garnet Pendant" to the stylist for CW’s popular “The Vampire Diaries” and is waiting to learn whether one of the show’s stars will wear it during an upcoming episode.
Metalmorphis was founded in 2010, but Jakum has been creating and designing jewelry for over 20 years. She teaches out of her home studio, is certified at Level Three for Precious Metal Clay and has studied with well-known jewelry artists Tim McCreight, Terry Kovalcik, Celie Fago and Wanaree Tanner. Her experience and training has paid off with numerous awards over the last several years.
In 2011, Parent's Magazine picked Jakum’s "Children's Artwork Necklace" as a "best gift" for grandparents in their "Annual Christmas Gift Guide."
In April 2012, Metal Clay Today awarded her Second Place in its Incorporate Contest for her "Tiger Maple and Fine Silver Cuff." That cuff was also selected from over 300 entries for inclusion in the "2013 Metal Clay Limited Edition Metal Clay Calendar."
During the spring/summer of 2012, Jakum’s "Ravena Necklace" took Third Place in Cool Tools' Antique Molds Contest, while her "Children’s Artwork Keychains" made www.coolmompicks.com's "Best Gift Ideas for Father’s Day Guide."
This July, online marketplace Uncommon Goods awarded Jakum First Place in their 2012 Jewelry Design contest for her "My Children’s Signature Necklace." Jakum’s work has also been featured in "Metal Clay Artist Magazine" and is scheduled to be featured in an upcoming issue of "Art Jewelry Magazine."
