Range Rover Evoque Earns Another Honor

Land Rover’s Newest Model Named Autobytel 2012 Luxury SUV of the Year

Online PR News – 21-February-2012 – – SCARBOROUGH, Maine – Some vehicles take years to amass a reputation, whether for reliability, luxury or durability, but the 2012 Evoque currently at Land Rover dealers is running well ahead of the curve. With more than 70 international awards already under its belt, the all-new Evoque was recently named the Autobytel 2012 Luxury SUV of the Year.

To select winners for its 2012 Car and Truck of the Year Awards, Autobytel editors used their experience of test driving hundreds of vehicles to evaluate new models in three key arenas: advances in design, game-changing potential, and overall performance and efficiency options. A top vehicle in each of 12 segment categories was ultimately presented with an award at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show in early February. The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque outpaced the Mercedes-Benz M-Class and Infiniti QX to earn the coveted Luxury SUV of the Year accolade.

“The Range Rover Evoque has everything you could want in a Land Rover, but in a sleeker package,” said Mike Avery, general manager of Land Rover Scarborough, a Maine Range Rover dealer. “Land Rover has been in the business of off-roading for a long time, but the Evoque takes the brand in a more street-savvy direction. Still, that doesn’t mean the vehicle is out of touch with its luxury off-roader roots.”

Autobytel editors noted that the Evoque is a key indicator of the changing landscape of Land Rover’s product lineup, which is becoming more fuel efficient to meet increasing federal fuel-economy standards. The small luxury SUV is powered by a 2.0-liter 240-horsepower Si4 engine that reduces CO2 emissions by a manufacturer-estimated 20 percent compared to larger capacity powerplants. That is good enough to deliver 28 mpg on the highway and cement the Evoque as Land Rover’s most fuel-efficient model yet.

While lighter and more fuel efficient than its siblings, Autobytel pointed out that the Evoque is still a typical Land Rover in many ways. The vehicle wholly embodies the classic Land Rover traits of luxury, coming equipped with a standard fixed panoramic roof, privacy glass, an Oxford Leather steering wheel and push-button start. Off-roading comes naturally to the Evoque as well, thanks to its standard Terrain Response system featuring Hill Descent Control and Hill Start Assist.

Land Rover moved 680 units of the Range Rover Evoque in the United States last month, a number that helped its overall vehicle sales increase by 41 percent compared to January 2011. The brand’s top seller in January was the Range Rover Sport, which sold 1,129 units for a 35-percent increase year-over-year.

“Demand for the Evoque is extremely high, and it’s only been out since October,” added Avery. “It satisfies the fuel-conscious, the style-conscious and the off-roading crowd all at the same time, so the recognition it’s getting from consumers and automotive reporters has been well deserved.”
