KidsMatter sponsors an annual student Job Fair at Merner Field House on the North Central College campus.
Online PR News – 23-February-2011 – – KidsMatter is excited to announce they will be hosting the annual Student Job Fair on Wednesday, March 23 from 5 pm – 7:30 pm at Merner Field House on the campus of North Central College. The KidsMatter Job Fair is endorsed by the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce.
KidsMatter's goal is two-fold: to help our community's youth get connected to local employment
opportunities as well as provide them with valuable skills that will prepare them for the workforce.
A wide variety of employers who hire teens and young adults for part-time employment will be participating in this year’s Fair, including Illinois Energy Windows & Siding, Aurelio’s Pizza, Cookie Dough Creations, Bolingbrook Park District, Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana, Naperville Pet Care, and Chicagoland Pool Management.
Each student who attends the Fair will receive a free Resource Booklet summarizing the opportunities available at each participating business along with their contact information. The booklet will also include a section that provides tips and tactics students can refer to in order to increase their odds of securing a job and will answer questions such as: How do I prepare for an interview" Who should I use as a reference" What qualities are employers looking for?
Special highlights include workshops and stations designed to give students an edge in the job searching process:
1) “How To Start Your Own Business,” facilitated by John Schmitt, President/CEO of the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce
2) “What Not To Do In An Interview,” – including on-site mock interviews for students
3) Resume Building – You only have one chance to make a first impression!
4) Internships – opportunities in a wide variety of fields
5) Vocational Opportunities to explore!
6) Helping Parents Stress Less: facilitated by North Central College’s Wellness Center. Parents are also welcome to meet and mingle while enjoying refreshments at the KidsMatter Parent Lounge, sponsored by Whole Foods.
The KidsMatter Job Seekers Help Station will be on hand to assist students with applications and answer questions as well as recruit new employees at their own booths.
This event is free to all students. Although this Job Fair generally targets youth age 16+, there are limited opportunities for 14 and 15 year olds. Information concerning work permits will be available at the Fair.
